The Cape Wrath Challenge The European Commission have described the Cape Wrath Durness area as being “the last great wilderness".  Today there are no permanent residents remaining on the Peninsula of Cape Wrath.  Cottages that once stood proudly by the road now lie in ruins; some of it deliberate when the landlords forcibly ejected the tenant crofters during “The Highland Clearances”.  There are few signs of vegetation other than moor and heather.  A narrow single-track road winds it’s way through exposed deeply incised valleys leading to the most north westerly point of  the British mainland and the highest cliffs in Britain. The Cape Wrath Marathon or Ultra Marathon is open to both experienced individuals, teams of two  and teams of five, who will complete it as a relay.  A small passenger ferry and mini bus will transport runners to the lighthouse at Cape Wrath.

  • If run by one person: Due to the nature of the course (hilly, exposed) over moors on a track  the organisers believe that entries must be restricted to experienced runners and have decided that a basic qualifying criteria will be imposed.

  • Two-person team: One person running to Cape Wrath; the other running the return.  Numbers limited first come first served basis

  • If run as an relay : Normally accomplished by teams of five runners.  Teams may be formed in advanced or if individuals wish to enter we will attempt to match runners. numbers also limited and pre registered complete teams will take preference.

Logistics dictate numbers, as transport on the Cape Side is limited

Awards and Prizes for  the Cape Wrath Runs
